The inspiration for Empower Girls Today is the journey I am on as a mother of three uniquely different children of which I have two beautiful daughters. My two love bugs ages 7 and 9 are fun loving, joyful, kind, intelligent and girly girls. Many themes are present in the lives of my girls including their love of gymnastics, pop music, famous celebrities, dancing and all things makeup…lol.
They both often struggle with the challenges of their developing body, mean girls, activities, school work, balancing friendships, peer pressure and self esteem. I reflect back on my childhood and quickly realize so many elements are different. Growing up in the 80s, there was no Internet, smartphones, digital music, electronic communication or specialized kid channels.
As my kids are raising me to be a great parent, I realize raising girls in today’s society is tough. I think it always has been….each generation has had to face their own burdens to bear and the current one is no different. The challenge to build strong independent young women who have positive growth mindset continues to get more complex.
